Working harder to stay in shape

At one time, I could eat whatever I wanted.

I could go out on a Friday night and drink, dance and stay out late.

I never gained a pound. As long as I worked out a few times per week, I managed to stay thin and in decent shape. As I’ve gotten older, my metabolism has changed. It has definitely slowed down. Now, I can no longer eat fast food without consequences. I can’t drink all night without feeling horrible the whole next day. I’ve needed to make some major changes to avoid gaining weight. I’ve had to focus much more on my diet and workout program. I no longer allow myself to eat processed foods or empty calories. I focus on mainly fruits and vegetables. I avoid pasta, cheese, bread, coffee and just about everything I used to love. However, I keep thin and avoid digestive problems. I used to workout for around twenty minutes for five days per week. I now workout every single day for at least an hour. I push myself much harder. I combine all different types of cardio and strength training and prioritize stretching. I wanted to maintain a good quality of life. To do that, I need to take care of myself. Along with diet and exercise, I’m conscientious about drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep. I’ve invested in good quality skin care products and make sure to visit the dentist every six months. Although it’s a lot of work, I am convinced that it’s worth it. I look and feel better than the majority of my peers. I’m able to remain strong and active as I age.
